Who holds your data

What we collect

• Your account. Email address, and a display name if you give one. We use it to sign you in and to contact you about your membership.
• Payment status. Whether your membership is active, when it renews, and the customer and subscription identifiers Stripe gives us. We never receive your card number.
• Reading. Which book and roughly where you were, so you can pick up where you left off. Bookmarks, highlights, and notes if you make them.
• Your writing. Anything you write at the Writing Desk or keep in your Common Book, and the authorship record attached to it: characters typed, characters pasted, deletions, and time spent at the keyboard.
• Basic technical data. Ordinary server logs, including IP address and browser, kept for security and troubleshooting.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data. Not to anybody, at any price.
• We do not use your writing to train machine learning models, and we do not pass it to anybody else to do so.
• We do not record your keystrokes as text. The authorship record counts events and measures timing. It does not keep a log of what keys you hit.
• We do not run advertising trackers.

Who else touches it

We use a small number of companies to run the site. They only get what they need to do their job.

• Stripe handles payments and holds your card details directly. We see only your payment status.
• Supabase stores your account, your reading position, and your writing.
• Vercel hosts and serves the site.

These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your settings. Stripe sets its own cookies during checkout for fraud prevention. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

• Your account and writing: until you delete them or close your account.
• Payment and invoice records: kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, which is generally several years, even after you leave.
• Server logs: a short period, then discarded.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• Send you a copy of everything we hold about you.
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Delete your account and your writing. We will do it, and we will confirm when it is done. Payment records we are legally required to keep are the exception.
• Stop emailing you anything other than essential billing notices.

Write to sifu@cloudforesttemple.com and we will deal with it within 30 days. If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, or in California, you have specific statutory rights along these lines and you can complain to your data protection regulator if we get it wrong.

Children

This site is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted, and payment details never reach our servers. No system is perfect. If a breach affects you, we will tell you.

Changes

If we change this in a way that matters, we will email members before it takes effect rather than quietly updating the date at the top.
